Sustainable Travel 101

“Travel meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

- World Tourism Organization

When you travel, you leave a permanent footprint wherever you go, whether you realize it or not. To travel sustainably is to assure that the mark you leave is a positive one. When you travel sustainably you are promoting the development of local communities, helping preserve world cultures and helping protect the environment. Plus, you may actually benefit personally, as contrary to popular belief, sustainable travel is often more affordable.

With the travel industry growing rapidly every year and over 1.2 billion international travelers in 2015, a number expected to grow to 1.8 billion by 2030, sustainable travel is becoming increasingly important. In fact, the United Nations decided sustainable travel is so important that it designated 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, recognizing that the world’s developing nations have the potential to gain tremendously from a more responsible and flourishing tourism industry.

One of our main goals at Dunia Unificada is to promote sustainable travel and by doing so, to support local communities, help make the earth a cleaner place to be and make sure you are getting the absolute most out of your travels. We have put together this Sustainable Travel 101 portion of our website to help you be a better traveler. We hope you enjoy!
